The Complete Checklist
Have these ready before you start the application form. With everything prepared, the form itself takes under 10 minutes.
1. Valid Passport
- Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned exit date from Vietnam — check this before anything else
- An ordinary (tourist) passport, not a diplomatic or official passport, unless applying under a different category
- At least one blank page is recommended for the entry stamp on arrival, even though the eVisa itself is electronic
2. Passport-Style Photo
- Plain white background, no patterns or shadows
- Face forward, neutral expression
- No glasses, no hat or head covering (unless worn for religious reasons)
- Taken within the last 6 months
- A white-wall selfie taken in good light usually works well — you don't need a professional photo studio
3. Scanned Copy of Your Passport
- A clear photo or scan of your passport's information page (the page with your photo and personal details)
- All four corners visible, no glare or blur obscuring any text
4. Travel Details
- Entry date — the date your flight lands in Vietnam, taken from your booking confirmation, not your departure date from home
- Port of entry — the airport (or land border/seaport) you'll arrive through
- A hotel name in your destination city — any hotel is fine; a confirmed booking isn't required to apply
5. Contact and Payment Details
- An email address you can access, since your approved eVisa is delivered there as a PDF
- A Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card for payment, in USD
Who Is Eligible?
Citizens of all countries and territories are eligible for the Vietnam eVisa, under Resolution No. 127/NQ-CP, effective since August 15, 2023. Citizens of certain countries (including several in Europe, plus Japan, South Korea, and most ASEAN nations) also qualify for separate short-term visa-free entry under a different agreement. If you're unsure which route applies to your passport and trip length, contact support to confirm.
What You Don't Need
Unlike some visa applications, the Vietnam eVisa doesn't require:
- An embassy or consulate visit
- A confirmed hotel booking (a hotel name is enough)
- Proof of funds submitted with your application
- A letter of invitation, for standard tourist purposes
- An interview
Important caveat: not needing these to apply doesn't mean immigration officers won't ask for them on arrival. Vietnamese immigration can still request proof of onward travel, accommodation, or sufficient funds at the border, even with a valid eVisa. It's wise to have a copy of your return flight and some form of accommodation confirmation on hand, just in case.
Requirements for Children
Every traveler, regardless of age, needs their own individual eVisa. A child's document requirements are the same as an adult's: a valid passport, a compliant photo, and accurate travel details. A child cannot be included under a parent's application — doing so risks both applications being rejected.
Requirements by Entry Point
The eVisa is accepted at Vietnam's major international airports, including Noi Bai (Hanoi), Tan Son Nhat (Ho Chi Minh City), Da Nang, and Cam Ranh, plus a growing network of land border and seaport checkpoints. If you're planning to enter through a land border or seaport rather than a major airport, confirm the current eligible checkpoint with support before applying, since this list has been expanded more than once and can change.
Common Requirement Mistakes
- Passport validity cutting it close — "at least 6 months" is measured from your entry date, not from today, so check the math carefully if you're traveling months from now
- Using an old or cropped photo — a photo taken years ago, or one with a colored/patterned background, is a common cause of delay
- Entering the wrong date — using your departure date from home instead of your actual Vietnam arrival date
- Name mismatches — typing your name from memory or another document instead of directly off your passport's photo page, including any middle name exactly as printed

What are the basic requirements for a Vietnam eVisa? +
